Aisha Buhari: A woman of style
Nigeria’s “first lady” Aisha Buhari is one woman whose sense of style and glamour has continued to captivate many despite her seemingly conservative background.
Since attaining prominence in 2015, she has made efforts to appear as a “soft activist” who care more about the down-trodden and poor in the society and women emancipation. However, her exotic sense of style and fashion has made her seem more like a celebrity than an activist.
Her fashionable Oscar Dela Renta Magnolia Guipure caftan dress which she wore some time ago drew so much attention from the public. The dress was estimated to have cost a fortune, well over $4000. During her husband’s inauguration in 2015 she was seen wearing a gold wrist watch which was also quite expensive.
Her rather consistent sense of fashion has not only continued to wow her admirers but it has also incited her critics who are not comfortable with her secular disposition.
Recently, Aisha Buhari was listed among the famous 22 women inducted into the Nigerian Women Hall of Fame in Abuja on June 11. The honor should not be seen as a move to placate the “powers that be”, rather it is an affirmation of her growing popularly and appealing secular disposition which her fans and critics have not ignored. The event which was put together by the Centre for Women Development was an “internet sensational” induction which saw the likes of Ngozi Okonjo Iweala, Oluremi Tinubu among others inducted too.
Her many fans who now follow all her public outings to catch a glimpse of a possible “fashion experience” have not been disappointed yet. Her most recent outing is at a public function held in Abuja to mark Democracy day celebration she wore a white caftan dress, necklaces and a light facial makeup. Her fashion style shows her preference for Oscar Dela Renza’s Caftan styles. Check out her photos.
