The 2018  Oscars Academy awards were held a few days ago on Sunday, March 4th at the Dolby Theatre, Hollywood. The 90th academy awards hosted by Jimmy Kimmel for a historic 2nd consecutive time, was looked forward to for firsts in more ways than one and the stars set the tone for the fashion.

From Emma Stone’s chic unorthodox look to Jane Fonda’s iconic vow renewal inspiration Balmain dress, everyone came clutch. The stars of the worldwide phenomenon Black Panther played to the movie’s theme in their fashion choices.

Chadwick Boseman looked every inch kingly in Givenchy, opting for a flowing embroidered blazer which was a breath of fresh air and miles away from the regular 3-piece tuxedo. His shoes were a fashion statement that would’ve certainly been a fashion police conversation started adding a little oomph.

Black Panther cast

stood out by throwing on a tasselled embroidered muffler to his 3-piece, yes Jabari chief! Daniel Kaluuya, ever the rebel sparkled in a rich dark brown velvet jacket with a satin lapel hope spurs men to make bolder fashion choices. Black and blue tuxedos are a timeless classic but boring if we’re being honest, he also scored cool fashion points for making velvet which is either a hit or miss work fabulously.

Lupita Nyongo is everyone’s fashion favourite who’s had necks turning since her first red carpet debut. The Wakanda Queen looked flawless in a monochrome strap black and gold Versace dress with a thigh-high slit and a natural up-do. She paired the look with a gold clutch, minimal silver jewellery and black high heeled sandals. Co-star Danai Gurira looked fierce in a rose gold tube dress spotting a train paired with a chocker and her statement bald artsy head.

looked like a cool breeze on a warm summer eve in her royal blue Atelier Versace number, a sharp colour contrast and her flowy one-sided hairdo left us dazzled.

also went the same way in a deep royal blue Armani Prive dress. Meryl Streep exuded classic Hollywood vibes in a flowing red dress with an age-appropriate plunging neckline, she paired the look with a pink clutch and gold accessories. Oscars for best dressed maybe?

Sandra Bullock, Jennifer Lawrence and Gal Gadot were shimmery delights, it’s no coincidence that the girl powerhouses looked liked their outfits were coordinated, only right.

Viola was a pop of colour in her bright pink Michael Kors collection dress and Roger Vivier bag. Leslie Mann, ever dreamy stunned in a flowery red Zac Posen dress, Jordan Peele looked every part the winner in a cream blazer.

Eiza Gonzalez was a vision in a yellow Ralph Lauren alter-neck dress beautifully matched with a messy updo. Ever the lesson in curvy fashion, Academy award winner, Octavia Spencer glowed in a green Brandon Maxwell gown that perfectly highlighted her skin tone.

Empire star Taraji Phenson stunned in Vera Wang custom black hand draped French tulle gown with illusion keyhole neckline, sheer back and dramatic draped sleeves accented by a high front slit and the Oscar Academy Awards.

The stars showed up and out, our favourites to look out for didn’t disappoint in the least bit closing awards season with a bang!
