The story of Akoko Edo’s unsung hero, Philip Eguarojie aka Pragmatic

The Gentle Giant: Philip Eguarojie

Philip Eguarojie, born into the family of Mr and Mrs S. B. Eguarojie, in Dagbala in Akoko Edo Local Government Area in the 70’s, Philip Eguarojie became the 10th child in a family of 16 siblings.

Philip began his primary education at Etuno Model Primary School, Igarra in 1986 and completed it in 1992. He was made the Social Prefect because of his excellence. From there he proceeded to St Paul’s Anglican Grammar School, Igarra between 1992 and 1998 and obtained his West African Senior School Certificate. His consistency made him emerge as the school’s Labour Prefect, a post that requires a high level of discipline and commitment.

In his determination to continue his education, Philip proceeded to study Accounting at Auchi Polytechnic and bagged an OND in 2002 and a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Accounting in 2008 from the same citadel.

Like every law-abiding citizen of Nigeria, he proceeded to serve his fatherland and participated in the National Youth Service Corps Scheme (NYSC) from 2009-2010.

He served as the Chief Account Officer at Nagari Magani Hospital, Keffi, Nasarawa State during the NYSC.

During his days at the undergraduate program at Auchi Polytechnic, he was elected Director, Welfare, Association of School of Business ( ASOBS), Auchi Polytechnic chapter.

Although Philip’s political career in secular politics didn’t start until 2005, he was in 2006 a delegate representing Akoko Edo LGA at the South-South Peoples Assembly (SSPA).

His participation and commitment to the party earned him the elective position of Welfare Secretary at his Ward in the All Progressive Congress.

Subsequently, he aspired as a councillor in the Action Congress of Nigeria in 2013, a position which he conceded to party supremacy.

His belief and love for ‘pragmatic’ leadership made him throw vehement support for the Godwin Obaseki and Philip Shaibu’s ticket in 2016.

He is also a foundational member of Godwin Obaseki Support Group (GOSG), a prime support group for His Excellency, Governor Godwin Obaseki.

Until his nomination, Philip Eguarojie was a staff of Information Communication Technology Agency, Edo State and worked in the Edo Oracle State Integrated Financial Management Information System (SIFMIS) as a Functional Support Staff (FSS) attached to Office of the Accountant General as well as Ministry of Budget, Planning and Economic Development. He was also part of the state Implementation Team for Oracle SIFMIS from 2016-2017.

It is instructive to also note that Eguarojie will be remembered for his forthrightness and steady critic of the activities of the Branch Executive of the ICTA chapter of Amalgamated Union of Public Corporations, Civil Service Technical and Recreational Employees Union, AUPCTRE which made the team deliver excellently.

Akoko Edo

His nomination as Vice Chairman, Akoko Edo LGA in the APC is an indication of his meteoric rise in politics and a testament of his contributions and accounts of loyalty to party structures and leaders in the party.

Although he aspired as Councillor in the 2018 LGA elections at Ward 5, Akoko Edo, he conceded the position in recognition of party supremacy and internal democracy to the party’s wish. This act clearly was noticed and recognized by the leaders of the party which decided to honour him with a higher commitment and responsibility.

He is also an Associate Member of the Nigerian Institute of Management, NIM.

Philip is a devoted member of Omega Fire Ministries and he is married to Faith Itua Eguarojie and they are blessed with two lovely children.

Ladies and gentlemen, this is the story of Akoko Edo’s unsung hero, Philip Eguarojie aka Pragmatic.
