Vice Chairman Flags Off Measles Immunization Campaign In Edo
The Vice Chairman of Akoko-Edo LGA Hon.Philip Eguarojie aka Pragmatic has flagged off the 2018 measles campaign in Gloryland secondary school within the LGA. Flagging off the campaign on behalf of the Chairman, he dedicated it to the Almighty God and informing the audience that the targeted population were children from 9-59 months of age.
The Vice Chairman who recalled that Akoko-Edo banged an award recently as the best LG on routine immunization, charged mothers to avail themselves the opportunity of immunizing their children. His words “I appeal to parents, guardian’s, opinion leaders, social groups, Religious leaders and a host of other bodies to join in educating and mobilizing our women to bring out their children for measles campaign.
Earlier, the PHC coordinator, Dr S B Ojeifo informed the audience that the measles campaign was a national programme aimed at immunizing children from between 9-59 months which would last for 12 days, noting that it was a federal government initiative for checkmating frequent outbreaks of measles and other contagious diseases in the country.
According to him ” the campaign which was first carried out in the northern axis of the country was now the turn of the South and not restricted to the LG alone and the entire state”.
Also speaking was the state technical facilitator who said WHO, UNICEF, Fed. Ministry of health and the state ministry of health were partners in the programme, soliciting for logistics to make the programme a success.
Finally, he told the vice chairman to be part of the review meetings slated for 5 pm daily to entertain feedbacks to ascertain the level of compliance. It was gathered that the programme would run in two phases.
The first phase would capture Uffa/Akuku ward, Ibillo ward, Ososo ward, Aiyegunle ward, Enwan ward for 8th-15th and Ugbogbo ward, Lampese ward, Okulosho ward, Uneme ward and Okpe ward between 15th-20th respectively. Present at the ceremony were the world health organization Representatives, LG Pharmacist, representative of the Otaru of Igarra, Social Mobilization Officer, the state technical facilitator among others.
